Thery is a multi-media book artist and instructor. She
specializes in the book arts including hand marbling,
bookbinding and the making of artist’s books. She is the
proud recipient of the Florida Artists’ Book Prize of the year
2000.
The workshop will focus on the ancient Japanese art of
marbling called suminagashi and its place in the
bookbinding traditions. This 12th century ‘floating clouds’
technique is seeing an increase in popularity.
The morning session will concentrate on working with the
traditional technique followed by modern variations to
produce numerous decorated papers. These papers will
be used in the afternoon session to complete a small book
in a traditional Japanese stab book style.
