- “Drawing the Portrait – A Forensic Artist’s
- Perspective” by Weldon Ryan
- Award-winning Weldon Ryan will share his artistic
- journey from drawing and illustration to his
- experimentation with multiple media. He will also
- demonstrate the techniques he utilizes in his FCAL
- class “Drawing the Portrait”. As a former New York
- City Police department forensic artist, he will share
- his experiences gathering information from victims
- and witnesses to create sketches to solve crimes.
- After 6 years as a policeman in Harlem, he said he solved more
important cases later on with his forensic skills than he ever could on the “beat”!
- Weldon graduated from the New York City High School of Art and
Design and the Fashion Institute of
- Technology majoring in illustration
and figure drawing. He also took
- classes at the Art Student’s
- League where he learned from
- major New York artists. His first
- job after college was as a ranger
- with the New York City Park
- Department working at a nature
- center where he created a mural of
- Pelham Bay Park. While he was a
- forensic artist with the police
- department he and his wife, also an
- artist, opened a studio where they
- were able to work on freelance
- assignments. They moved to Palm
- Coast in 2004 and have been
- members of FCAL ever since.
- Please come and enjoy the work of this very accomplished artist! Free
and open to the public.
