Papermaking Made Easy

  • Instructor:  Judi Wormeck

  • A demonstration of papermaking
using the 'pour' hand mold technique
will be used in this class to teach
students an easy way of making
    unique, handmade papers. The pour
hand mold has been used regularly
    throughout the history of ancient
    papermaking processes and is still
    used widely today.
  • Recycled papers will be processed in
a blender filled with water. The
resulting pulp is then poured into a
    mold and deckle. Embedded objects
    such as dried flowers, potpourri,
glitter, grasses, confetti, etc. may be
added to make each paper unique.
The pulp is drained and removed
from the mold. A couching sheet is
placed on the pulp and it is hand
pressed to remove as much water as
    possible.

  • The resulting piece of handmade paper is a unique work of art.
  • Supplies to bring to class:
  • Bits of paper such as colored tissue, computer paper, old wrapping papers, construction paper, etc. (no
    newspapers, please)
  • Suitable objects to embed into the pulp, if desired, such as dried flowers, etc.
  • A styrofoam tray or something flat to lay the wet paper on in order to carry it home. A finished piece of paper will
    be approx. 8"x10
